چکیده

Research suggests that a Motorcycle Autonomous Emergency Braking system (MAEB) could influence 25% of the crashes involving powered two wheelers (PTWs). By automatically slowing down a host PTW of up to 10 km/h in inevitable collision scenarios, MAEB could potentially mitigate the crash severity for the riders. The feasibility of automatic decelerations of motorcycles was shown via field trials in controlled environment. However, the feasibility of correct MAEB triggering in the real traffic context is still unclear. In particular, MAEB requires an accurate obstacle detection, the feasibility of which from a single track vehicle has not been confirmed yet. To address this issue, our study presents obstacle detection tests in a real-world MAEBsensitive crash scenario. Citation of This Article: G. Savino, S. Piantini, G. Gil, M. Influence of Alcohol Concentration and Braking Procedure on Motorcylist Brake Reaction Time Using a Motorcycle Riding Simulator

The statistical data published by National Police Agency, Taiwan, indicated that the motorcycle induced the highest accident rate, and drunk driving ranked first among the traffic fatality causes in 2007. The high traffic accident rate was attributed to the alcohol decaying driver reaction and the increase of frequency of using motorcycle in daily life as the car parking space and driving cost ...

A Behavior-Based Path Planning for Autonomous Vehicle

The path planning is one of the key issues of autonomous vehicle. In this paper, a behavior-based method is used for path planning. This method can manage complexity environment and is easy to design and test behaviors. An autonomous electric vehicle is tested in a driving course including the behaviors of road following, turning, obstacle avoidance and emergency braking. The test results show ...

Spontaneous-braking and lane-changing effect on traffic congestion using cellular automata model applied to the two-lane traffic

In the real traffic situations, vehicle would make a braking as the response to avoid collision with another vehicle or avoid some obstacle like potholes, snow, or pedestrian that crosses the road unexpectedly. However, in some cases the spontaneous-braking may occur even though there are no obstacles in front of the vehicle. In some country, the reckless driving behaviors such as sudden-stop b...

A practical methodology using in-depth crash data to support the assessment of new motorcycle safety technologies

Current knowledge on safety technologies developed for passenger cars represents great potential for translatable solutions that may also reduce the number and the severity of casualties among motorcyclists. However, the translation of a safety system conceived for a four-wheeled vehicle to a motorcycle is not straightforward due to the different characteristics in the vehicle dynamics and in c...

Effectiveness of antilock braking systems in reducing motorcycle fatal crash rates.

OBJECTIVE Overbraking and underbraking have been shown to be common factors in motorcycle crashes. Antilock braking systems (ABS) prevent wheels from locking during braking and may make riders less reluctant to apply full braking force. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of ABS in fatal motorcycle crashes. METHODS Motorcycle drivers involved in fatal crashes per 10,000 reg...
